How to boost our leadership effectivenes?
This is a complex question with many answers, but once understood and mastered, it can lead to remarkable, exponential results.
Delegate to thrive
Delegation is often a challenge for both new and experienced managers alike. It requires a major mindset shift from being an individual contributor who completes tasks to a manager who plans, assigns, and oversees them.
To delegate effectively, we should ask ask ourselves: What should I delegate, and to whom? The answer isn’t always straightforward. It depends on various factors like how work is currently organized, how delegation can improve efficiency, and which decisions must be made this week or this month. Also, consider which tasks have been delayed. Once we identify the right tasks and assign them to the appropriate people, we can focus on tracking progress and outcomes.
Planning without execution is wasted time
Another critical piece is following through on plans and activities to achieve your goals.
Tasks should be scheduled thoughtfully, not handled on a “first come, first served” basis. Prioritizing and coordinating tasks helps optimize how they get done. In a continuous improvement mindset, regularly review what your team is working on, the status of key deliverables, and whether any adjustments are needed due to shifting priorities.
It’s essential to find a balance between structure and flexibility.
Managers sometimes fall into the trap of approaching every situation with the same rigid method or treating everyone identically. Both extremes—being too rigid or too casual—can be counterproductive. Always assess where exceptions can be made within your team, your planning, and your managerial approach.
Keep team engaged
Engagement might be a buzzword, but it remains a vital focus for leaders. Supporting your team members in leveraging their strengths, aligning their efforts with key goals, and enabling them to see the impact of their work are powerful ways to boost motivation and commitment.
By nurturing engagement, you help your people stay focused and enthusiastic driving better results for everyone.
