As we normally claim, leadership is an attitude and a skill in continuous development. As you do in life you should practice “being leader” as you would do with your tennis skills or running skills; the only trick is that this one is much more complex.
Practicing leadership to achieve excellence (or at least to try), must necessarily be part of a structured growth path for every manager.
We will go through the entire set of possible attitudes but this will take a bit of time: be patient but be sure to start practicing them as soon as you can,
Habits are not always bad
The first area we touch is the creation of habits, where by this term we mean those behavioral models that we usually undertake without thinking too much, almost going automatically. In order to stimulate a rational discussion, it is important to ask yourself what the habits of your organization are right now, which ones are supportive to your targets, which ones are not. Remember that habits change over time and some, that by now may be consolidated, are dysfunctional with respect to the progress of processes, activities and, most of all behaviours.
Hope is not a strategy but may help
A second interesting point relates to hopes: our hopes or aspirations can be powerful in enabling us to carry forward, through the peaks and valleys of uncertainty that characterize our daily work. Hopes are closely linked to our vision of the work we do and intimately linked to what we as people more than workers want. What are your individual hopes and what are your team hopes? In three to five years, what do you want or hope to do?
Performing at top
Performance has always been a priority issue for companies. Enabling teams to accelerate the achievement of results with a simpler flow is a key goal of all the work that every company should set up. But peak performance also relies on asking the right questions and identifying appropriate response actions. The sooner you react to the different factors for each activity and organization that enable the achievement of results, the sooner you enable the virtuous path that increases the organization’s performance.
Sincerity and humility are not weak points
We always identify this two factors with weak points not pertaining to leaders, while instead is true exactly the opposite. Honesty of managers and team members is the key to building trust, the foundation of any team’s success. Where concretely can we manifest our honesty, both intellectual and material?
Great leaders lead with humility and this, is indeed the foundation of your authority as a manager. Ask yourself what humility means to you and identify who are good role models in this regard that may inspire you and your team
