Managing a team requires not only a one time effort but an endured analytical review needed to continuously align and refine the route.
What elements do you need to consider?
Critically review what is happening compared to your objectives.
What needs to be aligned? It is important to always take into account the connection between things, the mutual impacts between actions and the consequences , not only limited to one’s own context but also to the wider corporate environment. A lack of alignment will start like a crack in the screen and risk to create a divide impossible to achieve.
What is the state of alignment between our values and behaviors, team goals, individual goals and corporate goals? What is the current state of alignment with other departments in the company?
There’s always space for improvement.
What can stimulate the team to do and think better? And what about you as a manager?
Encourage thinking, you want to have brains, not executors working with you! it is important to always keep in mind how to be able to give an encouragement to how to come up with new ideas, so do not hesitate to do it, you will be surprised of what can come out.
No matter what the medium, whether you choose a book to read, an article or a video to watch as a team: consider what can always inspire your team in a different way with new ideas and approaches.
Habits and rituals help processes.
What habits are necessary for the team to function properly? As you plan to strengthen or create any you identify, remember that new habits take time to establish, so what you steer today will take a month or so to be consolidated. Habits are what shape our behaviour and influence results so be sure to choose the right ones and to enforce them giving enough time to radicate.
Set priorities and constantly review them
What are the main tasks to be addressed in priority? Things change and priorities should follow as well. Always consider where to direct your efforts and review your energy allocation often, while trying to maintain an overall balance and consistency, avoiding constantly changing priorities.
